A new beginning

So if I thought about my family in terms of labels, as in who we are in cute little monikers, I'd say things like messy, artsy, together, family bed, kangaroo mom, and things like that. I'd also have to be honest and add words like consumers, pretty bad eaters, and failing to belong to enough natural things (eg. cooking together, taking a walk, kicking a ball at the park or riding our bikes). When I first had my Emma 6 years ago, I didn't know what kind of family I wanted. I knew what I didn't want and kind of went from there.  Also as your kids grow, you change. You learn as they get older what is important for your family and what isn't. Recently, I'm looking around my family and am frustrated at the invasion of 21st century ideology. What???!! For me that means "Hey, kids, let's all sit around the computer and watch this really cool video I found on YouTube". I feel disconnected and pumped full of crap. Always needing to shop, consume, upgrade, replace, plug-in.  And with my middle son Shawn having hyperactivity/attention difficulties, I'm looking harder and harder at our family "mantras", rules, whatever. So off goes the tv (cancelled half my subscription), off goes the computer, and bye-bye millions of crappy toys. Walks, exercise, better food...and just better things. Better experiences. Calmer environment. And we'll see. If I don't take action now, then who will and when? I can do this.
